Dr Azhar Rashid is a pleasant, friendly colleague and renowned leading cancer specialist
(Clinical& Radiation Oncologist) in Pakistan.
Currently he is working as follows:
Director, Clinical & Radiation Oncology
Director, Linac Based SRS/SBRT Program
Director, Post Graduate Resident Training Program and
Consultant Radiosurgeon and he is credited as “First Radio surgeon of Pakistan” in the field of
radiation oncology. He is the pioneer of SRS/SBRT program in Pakistan in 2008 at Pakistan
Gamma knife centre Karachi.
He also has the privilege to introduce “VMAT” technology, first time in Pakistan in 2014. He has
treated more than 1500 cases with VMAT and routinely using VMAT-SRS, VMAT-SIB, MIMTMono-Isocentre Multi-Target VMAT.
Dr. Azhar Rashid did his graduation from Nishtar Medical College Multan in 1997, and He
completed his FCPS Clinical & Radiation Oncology (Radiotherapy) training from Shaukat
Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Center Lahore and passed FCPS-Radiotherapy
in 2006. He did Masters in Oncology (MSc Oncology) from Nottingham University UK in 2008.
He received stereotactic radiosurgery training from Germany, Japan, France and Czech
Republic. Till now, he has treated > 1400 Cases on Gamma knife and >1000 Cases of Linac based
SRS, >1000 cases of SBRT.
Dr. Azhar Rashid is the senior faculty member in College of Physicians & Surgeons PakistanCPSP. He is approved Supervisor/Examiner for FCPS-Radiation Oncology in College of
Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) – Since 2012.
Currently, He is serving as “Secretary” faculty of Radiation Oncology in College of Physicians &
Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). He played an instrumental role in development of faculty and updation of Radiation Oncology curriculum, SVCD Charts, TOACS, MCQ paper assessment, DOPS,
Mini-CEX, etc.
He elected multiple times for Executive council member of PSCO and he holds key post of “Head
of Research & Development- Pakistan Society of Clinical Oncology (PSCO). He is keen in
developing international relations with other societies and supporting the fight against cancer
globally. He actively participated in development and management of PSCO website, social
media, face book and other digital platforms. He promoted central management of PSCOONCO annual meeting through Executive council.
He is the reviewer of multiple National & International Journals. He has multiple publications
in multiple National & International Journals, >100 Presentations, >150 abstract writings.
His main areas of interest are “Modern Precision Radiotherapy” (IMRT/SRS/SBRT/VMAT) and
novel immunotherapies/targeted agents.
He is the member of multiple National & International Societies. Currently, he is the member
of European society of medical oncology (ESMO), International Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Society (ISRS), Radiosurgery Society (RSS) and American Society of Therapeutic Radiation
Oncology (ASTRO). European Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Life Time
Member of Medical Research Society of Pakistan (MRSP), Life time Member of “Pakistan
Society of Clinical Oncology” (PSCO) – Since 2006
His dedication towards cancer patient management, up-gradation of training and research in
clinical & radiation oncology in Pakistan is utmost.
